So many times in the business world you hear the phrase “it’s nothing personal.”  At Collaborative Construction we take a different approach.  We believe that our places of business and the homes that we live in are, in fact, personal in the extreme.  They are where we work, where our lives transpire on a day to day basis, and where our children learn to see the world as we would like them to.  What could be more personal, more intimate, and more emotionally complex?  Delivering projects on schedule and on budget goes without saying. At Collaborative, we focus on building a meaningful client relationship and ensuring a positive experience from conception to completion.  We pride ourselves on tailoring every project to our clients’ individual needs, and assembling the best team possible to realize their particular vision – whether that entails architects, designers, and a whole bevy of subcontractors, or just a couple guys with a shovel.  Every project brings together a new group of people to co-create – to collaborate – in building something useful, beautiful and personal.

The structures we inhabit also have personalities of their own.  Los Angeles is unique in the diversity of architectural styles that have grown up within its embrace over the decades.  It requires a contractor and a designer with a particular sensitivity to architectural detail and its’ historical context, whether it’s Craftsman, Mid-Century Modern, Mediterranean or Avante-guard.  We pride ourselves on restoring historically significant homes, such as Rafael Soriano's Polito House (photographed by Julius Shulman), and Harwell Hamilton Harris's Pumphrey House.

It goes without saying that our personal investment in the places where we live, work, and play is also to a large extent, a financial one.   We work diligently with all of our clients on their project budgets before a hammer ever hits a nail, making sure that their wallets fit their dreams.  The budgets we provide are highly detailed, and we believe in transparency – an “open book” policy – so that you always know where your money is going. Collaborative Construction has worked closely with several LA developers, where the game has always been about maximizing value – squeezing a dollar out of a dime.  Our experience in this aspect of the business has also served our private clients quite well, as it allows us to deliver a high-end, quality product at a very competitive price. 

While we specialize in high-end remodels and architecturally significant properties, we also enjoy smaller projects.  In many ways those can be more rewarding, as there is a certain elegance in the way a budget, by necessity, dictates function and design.  Limitations of budget, site conditions, or code can often inspire innovative solutions.
